P-51 begins production in Campos Basin

26/01/2009 Energy Current

BRASILIA: Petrobras' semisubmersible platform P-51 has begun producing from Well MLS-99 in the Marlim Sul field in the Campos Basin offshore Brazil. Installed 150 kilometers (93 miles) offshore in 1,255 meters (4,117 ft) of water, the platform is capable of producing up to 180,000 b/d of oil.

P-51 is capable of compressing 6 million cubic meters (211.8 MMcf) of gas and has a water injection capacity of 282,000 b/d. Its power generation capacity is 100 MW. The unit is connected to 10 oil and gas producing wells and nine water injection wells. P-51 is 125 meters (410 ft) in length, 110 meters (360.8 ft) wide, and weighs 48,000 tons. The platform has living quarters for up to 200 crew members.

P-51 is the first semisubmersible platform built entirely in Brazil. The total investment made in the unit is nearly US$1 billion. The Keppel Fells Technip consortium, Nuovo Pignone, Rolls Royce and Nuclep were in charge of construction.

Petrobras suspended the bidding process on the platform in February 2003 to include a mandatory minimum national content clause of above 70 percent. This requirement is now included in all of Petrobras' bidding procedures.
